Privacy Policy

How MEJE Ltd collects, uses, stores and protects your personal data, and the rights you have under UK GDPR.

MEJE Ltd, trading as MEJE Rentals. Last updated October 2026.

1.Who we are

MEJE Ltd (Company No. 17225566), trading as MEJE Rentals, registered in England and Wales at Haymill Close, Perivale, UB6 8EL, is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. For any privacy query or to exercise your rights, contact us at info@meje.co.uk.

2.What we collect

When you register, book, or contact us, we collect your name, email address, phone number, and a securely hashed password. When you make a booking, we hold the vehicle, dates, delivery and collection addresses where requested, and the resulting payment records. When you submit a quote request, we hold the details you provide about your enquiry.

When you rent a vehicle, we also collect what the rental agreement requires: your driving licence details and DVLA licence check, proof of identity and of address, your insurance details, and the handover record, with its photographs or video of the vehicle at collection and return. The same applies to every named driver. During the rental we hold data from the vehicle's tracker, described below, and the messages we exchange with you.

If you have an account, we also hold what you choose to add to it: addresses you save, messages you exchange with us, any problem you report about a booking and the photos you attach to it, and your driving licence and insurance documents if you upload them before a handover. Uploaded documents and photos are stored privately and can be opened only by you and by MEJE staff.

When you sign in, we record the time, the type of device and browser, and an approximate location (a town and country, taken from the network address), so that you can review recent sign-ins and end a session you do not recognise. We keep a record of whether you have agreed to receive news and offers, with the date you gave or withdrew that consent.

3.How we use your data, and why

We use your data on the following lawful bases under UK GDPR:

  • To perform our contract with you: running your account, taking and managing bookings and payments, handing over and collecting vehicles, and answering enquiries and quote requests.
  • To meet our legal obligations: keeping tax and company records, identifying the driver of a vehicle to an authority that asks, and responding to lawful requests from the police.
  • For our legitimate interests: protecting our vehicles, preventing and detecting fraud and crime, checking that drivers are eligible and insured, recovering money owed, and dealing with claims.
  • With your consent: sending you news and offers. We send marketing only if you have agreed to it, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.

We do not sell your personal data to anyone.

4.Vehicle trackers and cameras

Every rental vehicle is fitted with a tracker for security. We use its data only to locate and recover a vehicle after theft, suspected theft, non-return or the end of an agreement; to investigate accidents, incidents and claims; to check odometer readings where one is faulty, has been tampered with or is disputed; and to protect a vehicle in an emergency. We do not use it to monitor your routine journeys or your driving style, and we do not rely on your consent for it, as it is fitted for the legitimate interests above. If you rent a vehicle, please tell every named driver that a tracker is fitted.

We do not fit dashcams or interior cameras to our vehicles unless a vehicle's Specific Terms say so and explain how the footage is used. If you fit your own dashcam, you are responsible for using it lawfully.

5.Payment processing

Card payments are processed by Stripe, our payment processor. We do not store your full card details ourselves. Stripe handles this in accordance with its own privacy policy and PCI-DSS compliance obligations.

6.Sharing your data

We share personal data only where we need to, with:

  • the police and other law enforcement bodies;
  • the DVLA, and the authorities that issue penalty charges and road user charges;
  • licensing authorities, where a vehicle's terms require it;
  • insurers, brokers and loss adjusters;
  • Stripe and other payment providers;
  • debt recovery agents and solicitors;
  • our own drivers, where needed to complete a delivery, collection or courier job; and
  • service providers who act only on our instructions: our tracker provider, and those who host the website and its files, run our database, send our email and suggest addresses as you type one.

7.Your rights

You have the right to access, correct or request erasure of the personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to data portability, as the law provides. Every named driver has the same rights. To exercise any of them, contact us at info@meje.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

If you have an account, you can do most of this yourself under Privacy and security: download a copy of everything we hold about you, correct your details, choose which emails you receive, withdraw consent to news and offers, sign out of every device, and close your account.

8.Data retention

Records of a rental, meaning the booking, payments, the licence and identity details we checked, and the handover record, are kept for six years after the agreement ends, as company and tax law and the handling of claims require. If you close your account, they are kept with your personal details removed wherever the law allows. Details of a booking that does not go ahead are kept for twelve months.

Tracker data is kept for no more than ninety days, unless it is needed for an open incident, claim or dispute. The copies of your driving licence and insurance documents that you upload to your account are deleted twelve months after your last rental ends, or as soon as you delete them or close your account. Records of sign-ins are kept for thirty days.

9.Cookies

Our use of cookies is covered separately in our Cookies Policy.
