How MEJE is put together, and the things that apply whichever service you use. About MEJE.
What does MEJE actually do?
Two divisions. Rentals covers PCO hire, consumer rentals and van hire, all booked for a minimum of two weeks. Elite concierge covers airport transfers, chauffeuring, courier deliveries and removals, which are booked as individual jobs rather than by the week.
What is the difference between renting and concierge?
In a rental you hold the vehicle and drive it yourself under an agreement. In concierge our driver does the driving and you are the passenger, or the goods are. If you are unsure which you need, describe the job and we will tell you which one it is.
Where do you operate?
London and the surrounding area, and all major London airports for transfers. If your address or route sits further out, send it to us before booking and we will tell you plainly whether we can cover it.
Do I need an account to book?
Not for a vehicle rental. You can book as a guest, giving only your name, email and phone number, and once you have paid you are offered an account where the only thing left to choose is a password. Concierge and airport transfer requests never need an account.
How quickly will you come back to me?
Within one business day for enquiries and for service requests. A vehicle rental does not wait on us at all: availability is live, and the booking is confirmed as soon as your payment clears.
Who is eligible to drive one of your vehicles?
Every driver must be 21 or over, have held a full licence valid in Great Britain for at least one year, and have no more than six penalty points. Drivers under 25 pay an additional Young Driver Deposit, and some vehicles have stricter rules, such as a private hire licence for PCO cars. Only drivers named on the booking may drive.
Is MEJE a registered company?
Yes. MEJE Ltd, company number 17225566, registered in England and Wales and trading as MEJE Rentals. Every rental is governed by your Booking Confirmation, any Specific Terms for the vehicle, and our Base Terms, in that order.
How do I change or cancel something I have booked?
A rental that has not yet been paid for can be cancelled from your account. Once it is paid, tell us in writing, by messaging us from the booking or emailing us with your reference. Cancel at least 48 hours before collection and everything is refunded; inside 48 hours, everything except a £40 cancellation fee. Concierge and airport bookings are handled directly with us in the same way.
How do I get a price?
Vehicle rentals are priced on the site: pick the vehicle and your dates and the total is itemised before you pay anything. Concierge, courier, removals and airport transfers are quoted, because the price depends on the job. Nothing is charged until you have agreed it.
Can I have my data deleted?
Yes. Closing your account from the security tab erases your name, contact details, saved addresses and any enquiries you sent us. Where you have booked and paid, the booking and payment records stay as anonymous entries, because company and tax records must be kept for six years and payments have to reconcile. Nothing kept identifies you.
Vehicle Rental
Terms, pricing and handover for any vehicle booked from the fleet. Browse the fleet.
What is the minimum rental period?
Fourteen days for every vehicle on the fleet. It is a genuine minimum rather than a pricing tier, so a shorter booking cannot be taken even at the full fortnight price.
What is the longest I can rent for?
Three months. Every rental is a fixed term from your collection date to your return date, and nothing rolls over. To keep a vehicle beyond three months, we start a new agreement once the current one ends, after the vehicle has been inspected and everything due has been paid.
How is the price worked out?
By the week, with any leftover days charged at the weekly rate divided by seven. A rental from the 7th to the 25th is eighteen days, billed as two whole weeks plus four days, and the booking page itemises both lines before you pay. We are not VAT registered, so the price shown is the total you pay.
Why does the price say from?
Because the weekly rate is a floor rather than the price of any given booking. Since part weeks are charged pro rata, the total depends on the exact term you choose, so the card shows the weekly rate and the booking page shows what you will actually pay.
What mileage is included?
1,000 miles for each whole week and 143 miles for each extra day, counted across the whole rental, unless your booking states a different allowance. Anything over it is charged at £0.30 a mile after the vehicle comes back.
Can someone else drive the vehicle?
Only drivers named on the booking. Ask us in writing to add someone: they must meet the same eligibility rules, be covered by your insurance, and bring their own documents to the handover. Letting anyone else drive is a breach of the agreement and carries a £50 fee per person.
Do you provide insurance?
No. Unless a vehicle's Specific Terms say otherwise, you insure it yourself before collection: comprehensive cover for the vehicle by its registration as a hired vehicle, for every named driver and every use you will make of it, with MEJE Ltd noted as an interested party. The vehicle is not released without the certificate and policy schedule.
What do I need to bring to the handover?
For you and every named driver: your photocard driving licence, a DVLA licence check code generated within the last 21 days, proof of identity, and proof of address dated within the last three months. Bring your insurance certificate and policy schedule, the card you paid with, and your deposit in cash if you chose to pay it on arrival. If you have an account you can upload the licence and insurance beforehand. At the handover you also sign the condition report and a Statement of Liability for fines and road charges.
What is the condition report?
A record of the vehicle completed with you before you drive away: mileage, fuel or charge, tyres, fluid levels and warning lights, and the condition of the bodywork and interior, with photographs. Damage found at return that it does not record is presumed to have happened during your rental unless you can show otherwise, so take your own photographs too, and take the few minutes it needs.
Can I extend a rental that has already started?
Ask us in writing at least 48 hours before your return date. An extension only counts once we confirm it in writing with an updated booking confirmation, it depends on the vehicle not being booked to someone else, and no rental can run past three months from collection.
PCO / PHV
Renting for private hire and rideshare work. The licensing rules here are set by your licensing authority, not by us. See available vehicles.
What is PCO hire?
Our executive car rentals supplied to private hire and rideshare drivers. The rental terms are the same as any other vehicle rental; what differs is that the vehicle and the driver both have to satisfy private hire licensing before the vehicle can be used for that work.
Do I need a licence to drive private hire?
Yes, and it is issued by the licensing authority for the area you work in, not by us. In London that is Transport for London, whose private hire driver licence is what people still call a PCO licence after the old Public Carriage Office. You also have to be attached to a licensed operator, and the vehicle itself must hold its own private hire licence.
Is the vehicle licensed for private hire?
Every car listed under PCO hire holds a current TfL private hire vehicle licence, which we hold and renew. If a licence lapses the car shows as out for maintenance and cannot be booked until it is renewed. Cars under consumer rentals are not licensed for private hire work.
What insurance do I need for private hire work?
Hire and reward cover, because you are carrying passengers for payment. Ordinary private car insurance does not cover it, and a policy that excludes it can invalidate a claim. MEJE Ltd must be named as an interested party and the cover has to run for the whole rental.
Is 1,000 miles a week enough for full-time driving?
For many full-time drivers it is not, and this is the single thing worth working out before you book. The allowance is 1,000 miles a week, about 143 a day, and anything above it is charged at £0.30 a mile. Estimate your realistic weekly mileage first and tell us at enquiry, so a different allowance can be agreed and written into your booking rather than discovered at return.
What is the minimum term for a PCO rental?
Fourteen days, the same as any other rental, and up to three months as a fixed term. To carry on beyond that, we start a new agreement when the current one ends.
Who pays congestion charge, ULEZ and penalties?
You do, for anything incurred during your rental. Pay daily charges such as the congestion charge directly. Penalties that reach us are transferred to you using the Statement of Liability you sign at handover, with a £30 administration fee for each notice we process. If we tell you a car meets the ULEZ standard and it does not, we pay the ULEZ charges.
Can I use the vehicle for Uber, Bolt or a similar platform?
That depends on three things: the vehicle holding a current private hire licence, you holding a driver licence, and the platform's own vehicle requirements, which they set and change. Confirm all three before booking, and tell us which platform you drive for so nothing is assumed.
What if my licence expires part way through the rental?
You must hold a valid licence for the entire term, and tell us within 24 hours if it is suspended, revoked or restricted, or you go over six penalty points. Stop using the vehicle for private hire work straight away. Carrying passengers without a valid licence puts your insurance and your rental agreement at risk at the same time.
Can I swap to a different vehicle mid-term?
Not as a matter of course. We provide a substitute of the same or a similar category if your vehicle becomes unavailable, for example after a breakdown or a failed inspection. For any other reason, contact us and we will tell you honestly whether a swap is possible on the dates involved.
Business Rental
Commercial van hire for sole traders and businesses running courier, removals or haulage work. Business and commercial.
Who can hire on a commercial agreement?
Sole traders, limited companies and partnerships. A corporate agreement has to be signed by a duly authorised director, partner or officer, and we may ask for a personal guarantee from a director or owner.
What agreement terms are available?
A fixed term from two weeks up to three months, with a set return date. Nothing rolls over: for ongoing work, we start a new agreement when each one ends.
How much mileage do I get on a commercial agreement?
It is agreed for each hire and written into your booking confirmation, so tell us how the van will be used and we will set an allowance to suit, including higher allowances for heavy use. Where no allowance is agreed, the standard 1,000 miles a week applies.
What insurance does a commercial hire need?
Valid commercial vehicle insurance covering your intended use, with MEJE Ltd named as an interested party. Where the van is used for courier or parcel delivery, that has to include hire and reward cover.
Who is liable if one of my drivers damages the van?
The business. A business renter is responsible for its named drivers, employees and agents, and is liable for damage during the hire except damage caused by our negligence, a defect present at collection, or fair wear and tear. The condition report taken at handover is what settles any later question about damage.
What deposit applies?
A refundable security deposit, with the amount depending on the vehicle and shown before you commit. Drivers under 25 pay an additional Young Driver Deposit.
Can I hire more than one van?
Yes. Multiple vehicles and ongoing arrangements are quoted rather than booked online, because both the term and the rate change with the size of the fleet.
What work are the vans suitable for?
Household and office removals, general haulage and trade work within the van's rated payload. Courier and parcel delivery count as hire and reward work, which needs our written agreement and hire and reward insurance before the van is used for it. Loading beyond the rated payload breaches the agreement as well as being unlawful.
How is this different from your courier service?
Here you hire the van and drive it yourself under a commercial agreement. In the courier service our own drivers carry the goods for you and you hire nothing. The two are routinely confused, so it is worth being clear which you are asking for.
Can I put my company branding on the van?
Not without written agreement in advance. Ask before you book if livery matters to the job, because the answer affects which vehicle can be offered.
Payment & Deposits
What is charged, when, and what happens to your deposit afterwards. Read the Base Terms.
How do I pay?
Online bookings are paid by card, processed securely by Stripe, so we never see or store your card number. We also accept bank transfer, and cash up to £2,000 per agreement across the rental and the deposit, with a receipt for every cash payment.
What is charged at the time of booking?
The rental, and delivery if you chose it, are always paid online by card when you book. The refundable security deposit is paid in the same payment, or, if you prefer, handed to us in cash when you receive the vehicle. The booking page itemises each before you pay anything.
How much is the deposit?
It depends on the vehicle and is shown at booking rather than being a flat figure. If you or any named driver is under 25, an additional Young Driver Deposit applies.
When do I get the deposit back?
Within fourteen working days of the end of the rental. If we intend to deduct anything, we first send an itemised notice with photographs or invoices within seven working days, and you have seven days to dispute it. Refunds go back to the card you paid with; cash deposits are refunded by bank transfer.
What can be deducted from a deposit?
Damage recorded against the condition report, excess mileage, fuel or charge below the level it went out with plus a £40 administration fee, specialist cleaning, unpaid charges, and fines or road charges incurred during the rental. The deposit is security, not a cap on what you can owe.
Is the deposit taken before I collect the vehicle?
By card, yes: it is taken with the rental when you book, and we check that the card used matches the booking at handover, so bring the card you paid with. If you chose to pay the deposit in cash, it is taken at the handover instead, and the vehicle is not released without it.
Do I get a confirmation of what I have paid?
Yes. As soon as your payment clears we email a confirmation setting out the vehicle, both dates, the term, the mileage allowance, the rental, the refundable deposit and the total paid, with a short reference you can quote.
What happens if my card payment fails?
Nothing is charged. The booking stays pending and holds your dates for a short time, so you can try again from your account or cancel it there at no cost. If it is still unpaid after that, the dates are released for someone else and we email you a link to book again.
Is the deposit refundable if I cancel?
Yes. Cancel in writing at least 48 hours before collection and everything is refunded, including the deposit and any delivery fee. Inside 48 hours, or if the vehicle is not collected, everything is refunded except a £40 cancellation fee. Refunds are made within fourteen days.
Do your prices include VAT?
MEJE Ltd is not VAT registered, so no VAT is charged and the price shown is the total you pay. For the same reason we cannot issue a VAT invoice, but every payment has a receipt in your account.
Delivery & Collection
Getting the vehicle to you, getting it back, and standalone courier work. All of it driven by our own team. Courier service.
Do you deliver the vehicle to me?
Yes, if you want it. Delivery and collection by our own drivers is an option on any vehicle, for a flat £30 covering both ends of the rental. Tick it next to your dates on the vehicle's page, or at checkout, where you give the address. You or a named driver need to be there with your documents; if no one is, a rearranged attempt costs the same fee again.
Is delivery compulsory?
No. Collecting from us costs nothing, and plenty of renters prefer it because the handover and condition report are easier to do unhurried.
Can the vehicle be collected from a different address?
Yes. The booking form takes a separate collection address if the vehicle needs picking up from somewhere other than where it was delivered.
How far will you deliver?
Rental delivery covers London and the surrounding area; give us the postcode when you book and we confirm it. Courier work goes further: across London and the rest of the UK.
Does the condition report still happen if you deliver?
Yes, and it happens at your door. The driver walks the vehicle with you and photographs it before handing over the keys, exactly as if you had collected it yourself.
Can I book a courier job without renting anything?
Yes. Standalone courier work is booked through the Elite concierge tab of the booking page, or by sending us the pickup, the drop-off and the timing so we can quote.
What can you carry?
Letters, documents and parcels, small and medium items A to B, and marketplace purchases collected for you, door to door. For bigger jobs, book a driver and van by the hour, or a removal.
How is a courier job priced?
Each job is quoted before it is booked: a fixed price for the distance it travels loaded, the van it needs, how soon it has to happen, and any extra stops or waiting. Nothing is charged until you accept.
Who actually drives?
Our own drivers. The courier service is run in house rather than subcontracted, which is why the same standard applies to a parcel as to a chauffeured journey.
Can you deliver outside normal hours?
Tell us the window you need when you enquire. Timing is part of what a courier job is quoted on, so an unusual hour is a question of price and availability rather than a flat no.
Concierge
A specialist chauffeur assigned to you, handling the day rather than a single journey. Elite concierge.
What is Elite concierge?
MEJE's concierge services: airport transfers, a chauffeur for the day, courier and errands, and removals, all run by our own drivers and quoted before you book.
What kinds of errands can the chauffeur handle?
It includes, but is not limited to, collecting items such as a new suit, delivering documents or mail, and seamless pick-ups and drop-offs. If you are unsure whether we can help, ask.
What services sit under concierge?
Chauffeuring for the day, errands and collections, courier deliveries and removals. Airport transfers are run separately because that journey needs its own details, such as your flight number and direction of travel.
How much notice do you need?
It is a pre-booked service, so we ask for advance notice to assign the right driver and plan around your schedule. The more notice you can give, the better we can accommodate.
How is concierge priced?
Each job is quoted before it is booked. A chauffeur for the day is priced on the hours, up to eight, with a two-hour minimum for shorter bookings; longer than eight hours can be arranged at an additional charge.
How do I book it?
Through the Elite concierge tab of the booking page. Choose the service, describe what you need, give a preferred date and time and your contact details, and we come back to confirm.
Is a vehicle included?
Yes. The driver and the vehicle come together as part of the service, so there is nothing for you to hire and nothing for you to insure.
Can the chauffeur handle several stops in one day?
That is exactly what the chauffeur for the day service is for. Set out the shape of the day when you request it, including anything time-critical, and we plan the route around it.
How discreet is the service?
Discretion is the point of it. Our drivers are vetted and licensed, and what they see and carry is not discussed outside the job.
Can you do removals?
Yes: house, flat, office and storage moves, several collections or drops, and single large items, by our own team. The quote is set by the time it takes and how many of us, the van, access such as stairs and parking, and the distance.
Airport Transfer
Pre-booked journeys to and from the airport: inbound, outbound, or both as a return. Airport transfers.
Which airports do you serve?
All major London airports. Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Luton, London City and London Southend.
How far in advance should I book?
Outbound transfers to the airport should be booked in advance so we can time your pickup to your flight, building in time for traffic and check-in.
What are inbound, outbound and return?
Inbound collects you from the airport when you land and takes you home. Outbound collects you from your door and takes you to departures. Return books both together, out and back, and costs less than booking each on its own. Same-day bookings are taken where a driver is free, with a same-day premium.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Share your flight number when booking and we track it, so your pickup moves with your landing time at no cost to you.
How is the fare calculated?
Each journey has a fixed, all-inclusive price, quoted before you book and based on the route, the airport, the time of day and the vehicle. Airport charges are included.
How many passengers can you take?
Up to eight on a single booking. For larger groups, contact us and we will arrange it across vehicles rather than turning the job away.
How do I pay for a transfer?
Card on confirmation, cash to the driver, or bank transfer for business clients. You choose the method when you request the transfer, and nothing is taken until the booking is confirmed.
Can I book both directions at once?
Yes. Choose Return on the booking form and give both dates, with a flight number for each if you have them. Each leg is timed to its own flight, so a delay on the way out never disturbs the way back.
Where will the driver meet me?
Tell us how you would like to be met when you book, including the terminal if you know it, and we confirm the arrangement back to you rather than leaving it to chance on the day.
Is a transfer the same as hiring a car?
No. A transfer is a driven journey with a fixed start and end, priced per trip. If you want a vehicle to keep and drive yourself that is a rental, and the minimum there is fourteen days.
These answers summarise how we work. Where a rental is concerned, the Base Terms and the specific agreement you sign at booking are what govern it, and they take precedence over anything summarised here.
